Kwesi’s Shoot for Open Lab Magazine

by chloe on March 25, 2010

My friend and local photog talent Kwesi Abbensetts shot the spread below for the pilot issue of Open Lab Magazine. His work is, as always, breathtaking. Styled like a beautiful, gypsy nomad going to fight a war in a futuristic Denmark, the model works it out in some awesome Henrik Vibskov looks. Don’t be mad, Grace Coddington!

Lolo Veleko and the Smarteez

by chloe on January 21, 2010

lolo_veleko_2_baixa_1Was just reminded of this amazing street photographer I discovered when I was in Johannesburg, South Africa early last year . . . Nontsikelelo “Lolo” Veleko has made an international name for herself by shooting the unique and modern swagger of the young African urbanite.

Veleko runs with the Cape Town/Joburg art outpost the Goodman Gallery, which reps fellow SA superstars William Kentridge and Kudzi.

Rock the Block ‘09

August 16, 2009

Just got back from Rock the Block. The all day party in Dumbo included dope street art, an ill live performance by local favorite warped soul-pop outfit Heavy (check out more photos from the show here), a fashion show and a golden era afterparty with DJ Spinna at ReBar. Not to mention a whole lotta [...]

Straw vs Gold Photoshoot

May 12, 2009

Sometimes - actually, most of the time - a good product needs better promotion. My new line of clothing, Straw vs Gold, is no exception. I don’t own a camera, and those IPhoto shots weren’t cutting it. So when my girl Anna Rose called me and offered her expert photography skills, I jumped on it. [...]

Subway Art: 25th Anniversary Edition

May 10, 2009

In 1980, New York City was a different place. Hip-hop was in it’s inception and for the transit authority and the general public, graffiti art was recognized as little more than an entry-level crime and a “social plague”. But for street photographers Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant, the stealthy spray-paint artists and their elaborate subway [...]

Free People’s Rebellion + Kwesi Abbensetts

April 28, 2009

Recently I made some very stylish and talented new friends. First, I met Kwesi Abbensetts, the dope fashion/lifestyle photographer who runs the Spaceship George blog. Almost everything he shoots is awe-inspiring, from promo pics for other designers to his party photos from a trip to Jamaica. His styling is always fly and original, and the [...]
