Saints Win Superbowl, Weezy Goes To Jail

by chloe on February 7, 2010

Yeah, yeah everyone said that the Colts were gonna smash the Saints in tonight’s Superbowl game, but if you’ve ever been to New Orleans you know how much heart that city has - and the Saints are the pride and joy of the N.O. Final score was 31-17 suckas! Pour out a little for Peyton Manning and shout out a couple WHO DATs! The Big Easy has come a long way since being underwater four years ago, and that’s a lot to cheer about.
saintsOne person who understands New Orleans historic drama (and sports) well is Lil Wayne, who is starting a yearlong sentence at Rikers on Tuesday for a 2007 weapons possession charge. Will Weezy go crazy inside without his daily regimen? Or will it only make him grind harder when he comes out? The rap alien has been frantically preparing tracks and video features for release while he’s away, and I for one will remain a loyal fan. Hope the rest of the Young Money fam can carry their weight for a little while.

Jay Electronica: One Track Alien

by chloe on December 8, 2009

Props to Ned from Green Owl for this little Jay Electronica x Just Blaze track “Exhibit C” off Tony Touch’s Toca Tuesdays mix last month. I’ve been a fan of Jay for a while now . . . though besides his mixtape What the Fuck is a Jay Electronica, I couldn’t tell you what he’s on about. He’s from the N.O. but is as likely to be found anywhere else in the world and regularly tweets about abstract philosphies. Haven’t even been able to see him live, as he’s canceled the shows I planned on going to. He kinda reminds me of DOOM, like he’s too weird for the game and he just needs to be left alone as a talented artist who lives like a nomad-recluse-cum-Badu’s-baby-daddy. Thoughts?

Jazz Fest 09 Recap

May 4, 2009

I want to follow up my last New Orleans post with a little recap. The second weekend of the Jazz and Heritage Fest was
unfathomably better than the first, even though our car broke down on Friday and it rained on Sunday. In addition to the gems I anticipated seeing - Neil Young, Bonnie Rait [...]

New Orleans Jazz Fest Gems

May 1, 2009

I’ve been in New Orleans for over a week now and I have to say it’s bangin’ down here in “sportsmans paradise”. I’ve already gotten to see local outfit Rebirth Brass Band, bounce veteran DJ Jubilee, queen of New Orleans soul Irma Thomas, princess of neo-soul Ms. Erykah Badu, and Etta James, who did call [...]
