Doom in The New Yorker

doomFor those who are nerd-core (MF) Doom fans like me, eat your heart out: the metal-faced villain made a classy appearance in The New Yorker last week. Ta-Nehisi Coates - my fave journalist, Atlantic blogger and hip-hop head - nails Doom’s crotchety (no’homo) comedian caricature, his absurdly genius rhymes and his desire to be the director, not the performer, of his own work. The mag is mad stingy and won’t let you read the full article unless you’re a subscriber, but here are some excerpts and abstracts, and also some throwback live raps and music videos (baby Doom!) to go along with your reading. If you can, go out and buy a hard copy - it’s worth it.
