Major Lazer at Midnight @ SOBs 6/13

by chloe on June 9, 2009

Below is the reposted Flavorpill listing I wrote for the Major Lazer show this Saturday at SOBs. If you havemajorlazer613n’t bought tix yet, get on it. Guaranteed to be bananas!

Major Lazer — a rogue Jamaican commando who fights zombies with laser appendages and a rocket-powered skateboard — is the latest creation of uber-producers and dance-party kings Diplo and Switch, an outfit which combines dancehall riddims and futuristic bass riffs for bangers like Santigold and Lex’s “Hold the Line” and is heavy enough to kill the living and the undead alike. Tonight, Major Lazer starts his international tour of duty at S.O.B.’s to rep debut album Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do.

Maluca at Glasslands 4.24

by chloe on April 23, 2009

Though I didn’t make it to SXSW this year, I heard a lot about Mad Decent’s new chick Maluca from everymalucaone who was there. From the YouTube clips and second-hand stories, she sounds like a cross between MIA protege Rye Rye and Marina, the insane former frontwoman from Bonde de Role. Good looks Diplo, on signing another winner. If you like her style, check her out Friday night at the NY Tropical Party at Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn. The Dutty Artz djs Andy and Geko will kick you out if you don’t dance your ass off.
