Recently I discovered the Kinshasa “sapeurs”(La Societé des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes or SAPE), a group of fashion-devoted Congolese youth (the one pictured being particularly young) whose religious idols are the likes of Issey Miyake and Versace. They apparently risk their lives and any available funds to look fresh to death for a day. The photo below courtesy of COLORS magazine.
I also met with the talented South African photographer Chris Saunders last night, who is in town shooting the Benetton MyTime campaign. Here’s a video of the casting while in Johannesburg last month; it features those dope Soweto designers and street-style gurus the SMARTEEZ!
